3 Best Ways to Spend a Weekend in Columbus
There are lots of ways to spend a weekend in Columbus, whether you’re here for business, to find a new home among the Columbus houses for sale, or just because. As the list of things to do is so long, a weekend won’t be nearly enough time to do it all, but these options are three of the best ways to enjoy your weekend in Ohio’s capital city.
Sample the Food and Drink
The dining and drinking scene in Columbia is well-worth exploring, in fact, you could make an entire weekend of sampling some of its best options. Start by joining a culinary walking tour with Columbus Food Adventures. A variety of tours are offered, including one that will take you on a trip around the world through the city’s best ethnic foods from Mexican and Vietnamese to Nigerian and Salvadoran. Or visit the German Village, known for its strong German heritage, hosting restaurants like Hofbrauhaus Columbus and Das Kaffee Hause. Be sure to hit the North Market, open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to enjoy the fresh and prepared foods, ethnic cuisine, cooking demonstrations and more.
Columbus ranks high when it comes to a good brew too, in fact, it was ranked among the country’s top 10 by smartasset.com for beer enthusiasts with over a dozen microbreweries and lots of places to enjoy cheap pints, with the average costing just $3 here. Take the Columbus Ale Trail and you’ll be able to taste many of them. Head to one of the participating breweries in the region and pick up a copy of the Columbus Ale Trail book. You can earn a locally-crafted wood flight tray and five tasting glasses by visiting all 37. Of course, you’ll probably have to make a few return trips or move here to meet the challenge.
Dive into the Arts
Columbus boasts a thriving arts scene with more than enough to do to fill a weekend. It’s home to Shadowbox Live!, the largest resident theater company in the country as well as the highly-acclaimed Wexner Center of the Arts and The Pizzuti Collection, with its exhibitions of contemporary art from the collection of Ron and Ann Pizzuti referred to as one of the world’s top art collections by ARTNews. Simply taking a stroll through the Short North Arts District will bring you to more than 300 different businesses, including galleries and shops selling fabulous unique works. If you’re here in June, you’ll have the opportunity to attend the Columbus Arts Festival hosted on the downtown riverfront, featuring art, entertainment and food.
If you’re here on a nice weekend you’ll find plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors in Columbus. Keep cool and have fun by heading to Zoombezi Bay Waterpark which has nearly 20 water slides, a wave pool, action river and a kids’ pool. Whiz across 10 zip lines while gazing down at herding animals at The Wilds! With the Wild Zip Line Safari, which also offers horseback and other safaris, or enjoy one of the state parks in the area. There are multiple options, including Alum Creek State Park which is right in the city. Walk the nature trails, enjoy swimming, fishing, boating and more.
